BAckground
Farming techniques in the area around the farm are very basic, available resources (land, seeds, compost, tools, money etc) are limited and the farmers do not have the luxury to try and fail. They are totally dependent on the small amount of produce they cultivate. In addition, there are few/no easily available possibilities to improve their competency in farming.
On the farm we have developed a competency center. The idea is to test different farming solutions on Fred's land, then offer knowledge and practical know-how to to the local farmers.

Goals
- To improve the food supply for small farmers in the area, as sustainable as possible.
- To increase the knowledge about sustainable farming, what and how to grow in the local community, including the school.
- To collaborate and support the local authorities to implement sustainable farming practices.
Beneficiaries
Approx 1000 families
HOW
We test new farming ideas, train farmers and provide educational programmes for school children.
We are developing a "nutritional food package", a mixture of trees and crops which will provide nutritional needs throughout the year. Cultivation is based on the idea of sustainable farming i.e. producing food with as little negative impact on nature as possible.
The District Agronomist, the District Vet, the sector and village leader all visit the farm to learn and discuss plans, update themselves on our work and discuss how FRED'S FARM can best help the local population.
