BAckground

A demonstration plot is an area of land designated to "demonstrate" a way of managing a piece of land. It can also be used to do trials.
On the farm, an area was defined to establish a demonstration plot to both demonstrate and experiment.

Goals

  • To test how to maximize food production, both nutritionally and quantity, on the defined area.
  • To utilize organic and regenerative agricultural principles.
  • To involve the local school in the process of establishing and developing the demonstration plot.

Beneficiaries

30 families

HOW

The internship programme at the school was started at the same time as the demonstration plot. We defined that the interns would have prime responsibility, with Jacques, to establish, follow up and develop the plot.
The District Agronomist, the District Vet and village leader are all informed about the demonstration plot, and encouraged to visit and come with input.

Time Line

2025   All fruit trees are well established. Continue moringa trial. Bamboo planted.
2024   Iron rich bean trials continue. Trial with moringa as fencing. Improve 3D utilization of the plot.
2023   Continued development of the demonstration plot. An iron-rich bean trial with 3 different planting methods.
2022   Fruit trees, animal fodder plants, stable crops and other vegetables planted.
2021   Fruit and shade trees were planted on the perimeter of the plot.
