ECONOMY

We are a low cost initiative. All the Norwegians work on a voluntary basis, incurring no cost to FRED'S FARM.

ANNUAL BUDGET 2025

Total 180 000 Norwegian crowns

This covers :
  • Salaries on the farm and health insurance for permanent employees.
  • Running cost of the farm; coffee and macadamia, animals, plants, maintenance, improvements, tools etc.
  • Support to TWA village; school, farm tools, plants, seeds.
  • Support to local school; dairy goats, solar lamp library, plants, some sports equipment, seeds, plants, follow up resources.

Income:
  1. Donations from private individuals.
  2. Sale of coffee cherries, macadamia and banana from the farm.
  3. Sale of coffee samples to friends.

Exit strategy
The most important preparation is to have a good team in place in Rwanda and cash crops to finance the most essential activities. In addition, we also need to find local individuals and/or organisations who are capable and motivated to continue activities. This process has started and we are planning to have a model in place in 2 years time.

Health Safety Environment (HSE)

HSE is considered in all aspects of planning, and running of activities.

Health
Some food is grown on FRED'S FARM so our staff get some nourishment while at work. On the farm we have good hand washing routines. A First Aid Kit is on the farm and Jacques has had basic training in using it, and other aspects of first aid.
All workers get an introduction to safe work routines.

Safety
Necessary protective equipment is available.
All permanent workers use wellington boots.
We try to motivate and follow up that work is done in a safe manner.

Environment
In all our activities we consider environmental aspects. We not only try to protect but also look for ways to improve the environment. Organic farming principles are used on the farm, so no harmful pesticides or chemical fertilizers are used. This is also good for health and safety.
