To further develop education on the farm for the young generation, we asked the new headmaster at Kizi school if he thought an internship programme was feasible. He was positive to the idea and willing to co-operate in both planning and implementation of a pilot project.
Goals
- To increase interest in, and the status of agriculture.
- To give pupils more knowledge about simple methods to improve cultivation.
- To give pupils a means to improve the family income both short and long term.
Beneficiaries
6 pupils and their families.
HOW
To further develop education on the farm for the young generation, a plan for an internship programme was made. The new headmaster of Kizi school gave vital input to this; what age group we should choose, criteria for choice of pupils, motivational factors for participation, when the pupils could attend and more.
The three pupils are 16 - 17 year olds. They are chosen from the most vulnerable families. Health insurance is paid for these children for 2021. The pupils will come after school 5 days pr week, and all day on Saturday. They will participate in all activities on the farm. Jacques has responsibility for the pupils whilst on the farm. They are encouraged to write a log, and are obliged to write a report at the end of their internship. In addition to receiving some pay each week, a sum will be set aside for each pupil weekly. The saved sum will be given to the pupil after a successful 12 weeks. This sum will be used to start a small farming project at home. The school will help in this process. A diploma will be given if the programme is completed successfully. Jacques and the headmaster will evaluate the pupils.
Evaluation of the pilot project will determine if and how it should be continued.
