Doing homework and reading is a problem after dark as only some of the school pupils have electricity at home, approx. 40% of final year students have no electricity. The same applies for teachers. The school does not have electricity. Sunset is approx. 18.00 hrs all year round in Rwanda. Approximately 750 children attend Kizi school.
In Rwanda there is no system in place for handling "special" waste, electrical or other appliances. Outside of large towns there is no form of communal waste disposal. We have witnessed various non-functioning follow up of solar powered lamps.

Goals
- To improve learning facilities for schoolchildren and teachers.
Beneficiaries
120 pupils
HOW
Sourced a suitable solar lamp suited to expected use, focused on repairs, waste disposal, replacement and cost. The school principal was active in the process of how to organize a lamp library, including which pupils should get priority. All 47 lamps were tested, numbered and registered. A log for registration of "in", "out", "problems" was made. Several lamps were prioritized for teachers, and the rest for the eldest pupils studying for their final exam at school. This exam is decisive if they are to continue at senior high school.
